SUPPORTING MACMILLAN –

COFFEE MORNING - 5TH OCTOBER – 10AM TO 1PM

Thank you to all our library users who attended our special MacMillan Coffee Morning on Saturday 5th October 2019, and those that weren't able to be with us, but donated homemade cakes and prizes for our raffle.

The morning was a great success with plenty of raffle tickets being sold, lots of homemade cakes being purchased along with a lovely cup of coffee or tea to accompany it.

Tea cups and saucers along with Panda masks were created at the craft table which was set up for the children.  They also decorated biscuits to go with their cups and saucers.  Each child placed £1.50 in the donation box and enjoyed hearing it chink as it fell.

It is with great pleasure that we are pleased to announce that the library, with your help, was able to donate to MacMillan:-

£240.33

THANK YOU ALL

RURAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD DINNER

As announced in our last Newsletter Teresa Robinson (Trustee) and her husband, Drew attended the Rural Achievement Award Dinner at Winstanley House on the 10th October 2019.

The evening started with a presentation from a Representative of the RCC (Rural Community Council) which was followed by a three course meal before the Presentation of the Awards took place.

The first award to be presented was for the ‘Best Community Library Award’ which was sponsored by B Audio Visual.  The winner of this catergory was the Measham and District Community Library.

Although we were only Runner Up’s we are proud of being nominated and becoming finalists.

Thank you for all your support.

A QUIZ NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY!

FRIDAY 11th OCTOBER – 7pm for 7.30pm

Our Quiz night was another resounding success with lots of quizzers participating in teams of 6 or more.  There were 10 different subjects, with 10 questions each that we were quizzed on, as well as a music quiz which told a story where we had to put either the name of the song or group into the blanks to complete the story.

Half way through the evening we were treated to a ‘Ploughman’s Supper’ which included various cheeses, biscuits, carrot sticks and grapes.

Thank you to Marilyn Pile and her sidekick, Ann for organising the questions and keeping us entertained throughout the evening.

DIWALI CELEBRATION

SATURDAY 19TH OCTOBER, 1pm to 4pm

Thank you to Tara Pankhania, our newest Trustee, who kindly organised our first Diwali Celebration.

She arranged for singers to come and entertain us, dancing and Diwali craft activities which included Mendhi Patterns and Rangoli.

There were also light refreshments provided and our regular Milap Ladies Group, which is hold on a Tuesday afternoon, joined in with the dancing and enjoyed the music.

We hope that we can repeat this event next year.

Would you like to Volunteer to help out at the Library?

Come and join our friendly volunteers and help out at the Library.

You don't need to be computer literate or be available every week.

Our volunteers have all sorts of skills that can be used around the library.

·  Could you help with our Story and Rhyme Sessions which are for children under school age and held on a Friday afternoon from 2.30pm to 3pm?

·  Can you bake a cake and make a cup of tea? Perhaps you could join us at our 1st Saturday of the Month Coffee Morning to help out.

·  Do you like doing Crafts? We often have craft days for the children during the holidays so a few hours now and then would be helpful.

·  Or perhaps you could join our Events Committee to help organise the various events that we hold or join our Trustees.

·  Shelf stacking in the library, tidying and a bit of gardening would also be useful.

Ask our volunteers for a signup sheet or visit our website, www.lfelibrary.org and apply online.

Any help would be appreciated.
